Daniel Susskind is a writer and leading thinker on socioeconomics and AI. An Oxford Fellow, Daniel is the author of A World Without Work and co-author of The Future of Professions: How Technology Will Transform the Work of Human Experts, and looks at everything from policy in technology to ethics and trust to the future of work. Prior to joining Oxford’s research centre, Daniel held senior policy advisor roles in government. He worked as a policy advisor in the Prime Minister’s Strategy Unit, a policy analyst in the Policy Unit in Number 10 and as a senior policy advisor in the Cabinet Office. Co-written with his father Richard Susskind, The Future of Professions was listed as book of the year by the Financial Times, New Scientist and the Times Literary Supplement. In it, he depicts a world where machines begin to out-perform humans and capable systems begin to replace professional jobs. As we increasingly turn to the internet for answers, Daniel questions the relevance of middle-class jobs such as consultants, lawyers, accountants and doctors. He asks who should own and control online expertise and considers how ethics will play into the future of employment.

His second book, A World Without Work, similarly examines how future developments in technology and AI will come to replace workers and the potential risks this could bring to society. From diagnosing illnesses to creating legal documents, Daniel discusses the superiority of AI over humans and how this will make life easier and more prosperous for some while potentially widening the social disparity. As the nature of work is set to change, Daniel combines caution with optimism. He reveals how we will have the ability to pursue passions and live a life that is not centred on work, but will require governmental regulation so as to avoid aggravating the already-uneven distribution of wealth.

Daniel looks at the effects of modern technologies on society and explores what potential changes AI will bring to both the workplace and the way we view work. He makes the case that the replacement of human jobs by robots does not have to be destructive to society. He considers the threats and the opportunities presented by future changes. Combining his research with his experience in policy, Daniel discusses what measures we must go through to ensure wealth, knowledge and expertise are distributed evenly and controlled by the consumers.[/vc_column_text][divider line_type=“Full Width Line“ line_thickness=“1″ divider_color=“default“][vc_column_text]We live in pivotal times of change. Hamrað er á að við eigum að fylgja köllun okkar og vera sífellt besta útgáfan af okkur sjálfum. Hvaða áhrif hafa þessar óraunhæfu kröfur á mannauðsstjóra og fólkið sem það ræður í vinnu – eða ræður ekki? Óttinn við að mistakast lamar okkur. I started my career working in strategy and operations, learning the ins and outs of various corporate functions. Quickly, I transitioned from building products and ideas to building people. At Bristol Myers, I expatriated to Rome, Italy to learn about nuances of international work. At the world’s largest Human Capital consulting firm, Deloitte, I engaged C-suite clients to redefine every aspect of human capital work.

As Alexion’s first Chief Diversity Officer, I reported into the CEO, served on the executive committee, and built a market-leading global diversity and inclusion function from ground up at an astounding pace. I also expatriated to Barcelona, Spain. As Carbon Health’s Chief People Officer, I drove end-to-end Human Resources strategies to augment an irresistible employee experience for a complex workforce spanning customer facing retail side and Silicon Valley high tech employees.

As the BBC Chief People Officer, I am based in London, UK and lead ~750 FTE staff at one of the world’s most iconic companies. I oversee end-to-end human resources capabilities across the BBC Group and am responsible for shaping and driving the BBC’s people strategy, cultural transformation, and organizational change. I sit on the BBC Executive Committee, the Operations Committee, and also serve as a key advisor to the Board Remuneration Committee. Additionally, I oversee Children in Need, an independently run and governed charity of the BBC. Finally, I also spearhead the BBC Academy, launchpad for the greatest media talent worldwide.

I have a clear purpose to set people free because when people are free, everything is possible. I aspire to create environments that spark collaboration and innovation to ignite desired outcomes for the employees, customers, and the shareholders.

I’ve worked on a factory floor. I’ve delivered CEO level strategy. I’ve thrived in complex global conglomerates and I’ve trailblazed in a flashy hyper-growth startup. I’ve been a professor. I’ve authored papers. I’ve worked and lived in multiple countries. I speak six languages. I love mentoring others. I am a life enthusiast. But most notably, I dream about disrupting traditional approaches towards human resources to help people and corporations realize their full potential while pivoting to the future of work.

I am disruptive and innovative.
